Movie Review: The Conference
Comedy, Murder and Madness…
The Conference was released October 13, 2023 and directed by Patrik Eklund. It stars Katia Winter, Adam Lundgren, Eva Melander and more. It’s runtime is 1 hour and 40 minutes.
The Conference is originally in Swedish but watching with English subtitles or with the English voice over shouldn’t take away too much from the experience.
This movie is a great mix of comedy, horror and slasher.
This movie starts out bizarre and it keeps going. In the movie a group of employees attend a team building conference in a very rural town. Things take a turn for the worst when a killer starts to hunt them down.
This group of employees are really toxic. They all seem to hate their jobs. Well, most except two of them.
Still they do these team building exercises that are supposed to be fun but actually seem really painful to do.
All the while the killer is taking out the staff at the local Inn. The killer is able to remove all their phones and cut the lines, of course to keep them stranded.
The few slasher film tropes did not get in the way of me enjoying this film. Tell me if you see them if you have watched this movie.
The directing is pretty good on this one too. There are some kill scenes that transition really well into the team building exercises. I think the director gave us interesting contrast with those cuts.
I can also appreciate the strained and awkward atmosphere created by the characters. This seems like a group of employees who truly don't enjoy work or working with each other.
The ending is vary anticlimactic. I enjoyed the movie a lot up to a certain part towards the end. I expected something more extravagant to be honest. But even so it’s a good movie.
