Heartbreaking, heartbreaking, heartbreaking.

Sound of Freedom was released July 4, 2023 and directed by Alejandro Monteverde. It stars Jim Caviezel, Bill Camp, Cristal Aparicio,
Javier Godino and more. It has a runtime of 2 hours and 11 minutes.

There will be discussion of kidnapping, sexual abuse and human trafficking… If you aren’t comfortable with that then don’t read this article.

This was a tough movie to watch.

The plot follows a cop named Tim Ballard who works for Homeland Security. During a conversation with a co-worker he realizes that he has helped to catch many predators and pedophiles but has never been able to locate and free any children.

He goes on a mission determined to free Rocío, the sister of Miguel, the first child he rescues and return them both to their father.

There is a lot of controversy following this film. A lot of political polarization being the main reason why. You can watch this video to get an idea of the reasons why it is drawing controversy here.

I don’t care about controversy so I will not dabble in that. I’m just here to comment on the film.

I know that not everything in the movie happened as represented but I have read enough and seen enough to understand that the core storyline for the most part is based on a true story.

Trafficking has and is still a problem.

It’s a hard movie to watch especially as a father and even thinking for a moment if it was my child is painful.

Hopefully the movie conveys a sense of understanding and awareness for everyone who watches and we try a bit harder to be safer.

Jim Caviezel in Sound of Freedom (2023)

The performance by Jim Caviezel as Tim Burton is determined, stubborn and focused on saving these children. He does some questionable things to get it done…

But he has to bear that weight on his soul.

At 2 hours 11 minutes it’s no easy task to watch this movie end to end. It’s uncomfortable to watch by design.

The movie won the Septimus Award for “Best American Film” in 2023.

The end of the movie when Miguel’s sister Rocío was reunited with her family is heartwarming.
