Infinity Song really hit me in the feels with this..

Metamorphosis Album cover

This album is one of my favorites since SZA’s SOS came out in 2022. The vocals are angelic and moving and the instrumentation is perfection. Infinity Song is an all sibling group and they all can sing. You can feel their connections as they sing together and harmonize. They really are a gifted. I would suggest you listen to their previous project Mad Love. I believe they can only go up from here.

Metamorphosis

The title track is definitely one of my favorites. A song about transformation and change as metamorphosis means: the process of transformation from an immature form to an adult form in two or more distinct stages.

Cleverly placed towards the end of the track is a great transition using the guitar. A transformation of the song right!? So the lyrics before the transition and after are very different. Let’s analyze:

Before transition:

I’ve never had a decent answer to a single question
I don’t say my opinions too loud
I’m always second guessing

After transition:

But look at all the things you did
Look at your metamorphosis

Before transition:

What I’d give to give it all I’ve got
What I’d do to be something I’m not

After transition:

And now you’re on a rocket ship
You’re standing there on that stage
All because you had the faith

Before transition:

I can’t take many chances
I just stick to what I’m best at
My personality it lends to bad first impressions

After transition:

You’re basking in the light of day
A resurrection from your grave
Like flowers in the breeze you sway
But rooted in the dirt, you’ll stay

I really like this sonic metamorphosis that is done within the song because as you get to the last part your emotions change. This song feels like change, growth, a shifts in mindset, a move in the positive direction.

Pink Sky

I love the lyrics for this song. Infinity song uses an extended metaphor to discuss individuality and self determination/discovery. Let’s analyze:

First they set the scene:

He was only a young boy
When he found out he had no choice
The sky was either black or blue or gray
Yeah, he was never a big fan of gray
The stars are cool but black’s okay
And blue it happens everyday

For me I think the colors of the song represent emotion, mindset and vision of the characters given in the song. For this young boy he does not relate to black, blue or gray skies.

We could theorize what blue represents but in this case I think it represents some level of neutrality and serenity. In the lyrics it states blue is the default so there is nothing special about blue.

The use of black and grey are interesting to me. Black definitely represent the night as the stars are mentioned. Let’s analyze a bit more to get some more clues as to what black could represent.

And daddy likes to watch the sky turn black
And mommy likes when it turns back
He wasn’t drawn to either but

So black is linked to the father. Knowing black is a darker color and is often worn at funerals may tell us about the father holding some grief inside of him. This is just my theory.

The mother of course likes blue as when the sky turns back in the morning it becomes blue. I mentioned blue meaning peace and serenity. It seems like the mother balances out the relationship with her bright blue vs the father’s black.

Grey i think would represent something similar to black. Also dark but not as much would represent a certain level of sadness and darkness. Grey also brings a level of neutrality so my next theory is grey represent a level of complacency.

When the sky turns pink
It makes him think
That maybe he could learn to do his own thing
Make the beauties in the in between
When the sky turns pink
He feels like maybe he’ll be something special

For the chorus it reveals that a pink sky is what most represents him. Pink is vibrant, full of live and represents many things. For me I think it represents hope over everything. He is hopeful, optimistic and full of vibrant creativity. It really make you put this song into perspective.

Hater’s Anthem

This song is a satirical masterpiece. Satire is a literary device that uses humor, irony, or exaggeration to criticize and mock people, society, or human nature.

Let’s analyze what makes this satire:

I love the way it feels to be a hater
Something so sweet about thinkin’ that I’m better
Just to wake up every morning
Lay in bed and somehow never ever
Rise to the occasion

Hate is generally considered across society as a negative thing. The urban dictionary says: A HATER is specific type of jealous person. People that just hate on other people for no reason just to make themselves feel good and to make that person feel miserable.

The irony of these lines are obvious. Of course they are criticizing hater by using the humor of how ridiculous the life of a hater is.

But we all know that it doesn’t even matter
If I waste away and no one thinks I’m clever
Just as long I’ve got my ego
And it tells me I’m superior
I could probably go a lifetime
Being barely mediocrе
I’d still convince myself evеrytime that I’m better

The song leans in even more about the life of a hater and how unproductive they are because of all the energy used up being a hater. Plus this song is really catchy and has a nice upswing. So the lyrics just hit harder.
My favorite lines are:

And I would rather sit and criticize
Or watch it from the sidelines
Cause I know, no matter what you do
Or what I don’t do

My pride will always comfort me
Telling me that I’m better than you

This song is probably the catchiest song on the album and the use of satire is well done.

No One Comes Close

This song is really amazing. It radiates and oozes good vibes, love and appreciation for someone.

Some of my favorite lines from the song:

You are a shining star
I didn’t know your kind
Even in this instant
Gorgeous falls short as a description

Nothing comes close to the emotion on this song.

Conclusion

On the last track “I Don’t Feel No Ways Tired”, Infinity Song gives an amazing rendition of the original song that was composed and arranged by gospel musician James Cleveland. It’s amazing how their voice bring new life to this song about faith and perseverance to close out their album. I have very high hopes for Infinity Song and I hope to get new music from them soon. Their pen game is immaculate and their singing voices truly something special.

Let’s hope for more of Infinity Song in the near future. Thank you for reading!
